At MARKS Design and Metalworks, we are proud to specialize in the manufacture of custom stainless steel flanged and dished heads for industrial and commercial applications. Our Boldrini dishing press and flanging machine, combined with our in-house engineering department, ensure that we meet or beat industry standards and exceed customer expectations. We offer a variety of head types, including ASME Semi Elliptical Head (SE), 2:1 Semi-Elliptical, 1.9:1 Elliptical, ASME Torispherical Head (F&D), 80-10, 100%, and 90%, and finally MARKS Standard Head (F&D), non-ASME. Our commitment to quality is evident in everything we do, from the precision of our manufacturing process to the documentation we optionally provide. If manufacturing a pressure vessel, our customers can expect to receive material test reports and ASME certification on their tank heads, ensuring that our flanged and dished heads are an accepted component of an ASME-certified pressure vessel.

MARKS produces domed tank heads up to 120” in diameter.  The stainless steel plate thickness can be up to a half inch.  With these dimensions, MARKS can manufacture a flanged and dished head for almost every need.

MARKS tank heads are produced to meet ASME certification requirements.  We can build elliptical and toriconical heads for any stainless steel vessel, including for high pressure vessels.

Our equipment can complete ID and OD polishing.  Various grit options are available, as well as mirror finishing.  MARKS equipment can complete head polish on sizes up to 140”.

Boldrini is recognized as the leading worldwide manufacturer of hydraulic dished end presses and flanging machines.  Since 1905, Boldrini has been making its high-performance products.  MARKS is proud to use a Boldrini specialty machine to produce its quality stainless steel ASME tank heads.  With the Boldrini flanging machine and our head polisher, various types of heads can be produced obtaining very tight tolerances and up to mirror polish finishes.

ASME Semi Elliptical Head (SE), 2:1 Semi-Elliptical

ASME – ELIPTICAL (2:1 RATIO)

A 2:1 elliptical tank head is fabricated to have a certain shape instead of a particular dish radius or knuckle radius. The dish radius is approximately 90% of the diameter and the knuckle radius is approximately 17% of the diameter. 2:1 elliptical flanged and dished polished heads are ASME compliant.

ASME Semi Elliptical Head (SE), 1.9:1 Elliptical

ASME – ELIPTICAL (1.9:1 RATIO)

A 1.9:1 elliptical tank head is fabricated to have a certain shape instead of a particular dish radius or knuckle radius. The dish radius is approximately 86% of the diameter and the knuckle radius is approximately 19% of the diameter. 2:1 elliptical flanged and dished polished heads are ASME compliant.

ASME Torispherical Head (F&D), 80-10

ASME – Flanged & Dished Polished Heads

As the inside diameter formed heads increases in size, savings in material cost can be achieved by designing 80-10 Torispherical heads rather than standard ASME Torispherical or Ellipsoidal shapes. It features a dish radius equal to 80% of the diameter, and an inside knuckle radius equal to 10% of the head diameter.

The 80-10 is typically only 66% the thickness of the ASME Torispherical.

ASME Torispherical Head (F&D), 100%

ASME – Flanged & Dished Polished Heads

Commonly used for ASME pressure vessels, these torispherical heads have a crown radius equal to the outside diameter of the head, and a knuckle radius equal to 6% of the outside diameter.  The ASME design code does not allow the knuckle radius to be any less than 6% of the outside diameter.

ASME Torispherical Head (F&D), 90%

ASME – Flanged & Dished Polished Heads

Commonly used for ASME pressure vessels, these torispherical heads have a crown radius equal to 90% of the outside diameter of the head, and a knuckle radius equal to 8% of the outside diameter.  The ASME design code does not allow the knuckle radius to be any less than 8% of the outside diameter.

MARKS Standard Head (F&D), non-ASME

non-ASME – Flanged & Dished Polished Heads

MARKS standard heads are used in many of our beverage and food service tanks.  This custom profile is not a ASME standard but serves beverage tank needs well.  These torispherical heads have a crown radius equal to 100% of the outside diameter of the head, and a knuckle radius approximately equal to 5% of the outside diameter.
